6 Tips For Improving Your Site’s Search Engine Positioning

6 Tips For Improving Your Site’s Search Engine Positioning6 Tips For Improving Your Site’s Search Engine Positioning
6 Tips For Improving Your Site’s Search Engine Positioning. Almost all webmasters or website owners are looking for ways to get better results from their websites. They wish to improve their site’s standing and get better rankings in search engines. This quest for improved results, known as search engine positioning, can be satisfied by following a few basic procedures.

Before you even begin, you have to realize that you are competing against hundreds, and in some categories, thousands of websites offering similar products and services. In the case of affiliate marketing, many of the competing websites may even be identical! If you want to get the edge over these competitors and improve your search engine positioning you have to fine-tune your website and actively work to make it better.

1. Make Sure that your design is search engine friendly:

Your design may look good to your eyes, but it may also be the cause of you present difficulties and poor search engine positioning. How is that possible? Look at your web page using a text editor or the html view of popular editors such as Dreamweaver and Frontpage. On what line does your first line of copy begin? If your actual copy is pushed far down the page, it is more difficult for search engines to pick up the crucial information that would have helped you to improve your web page ranking.

If you have this difficulty, first take out all unnecessary spaces in the html code. If there are long strings of java script, put these in external files. Similarly, put style information in external Cascading Style Sheet files. Simplifying your table structure may also help. If this starts getting too complicated for you, then consult with a professional search engine positioning specialist or your web designer.

2. Make sure your keywords are strategically placed in your copy:

It is not possible to improve web page ranking if the readable copy on your web page does not contain the words you wish to be found by. Many people erroneously think that just putting your important keywords in meta tags is enough. This is not true, some search engines hardly use the meta tags and look more to the copy on the page. Make sure that your important copy is in the first paragraph of text, in headlines (using headers such as H1, H2, H3) and in the active or clickable portions of link text on your page.

3. Use a site map and text link navigation on your pages:

If you want to improve your search engine positioning for all the pages of your website then you have to be sure that these pages actually get indexed or included in the search engines. You can help this process along by making a site map, a web page that has text links to all the sub pages of your site. Another good practice is to include a text link navigation system on your web pages, even if you already have a graphics based navigation bar elsewhere on these same pages. Remember, search engines follow text links more easily. A robot that lands on your main page or site map page will follow the text links and then visit and index your lower level pages.

4. Increase the quantity and quality of inbound links:

In fiercely competitive categories it will be difficult to improve web page ranking without obtaining a good number of links to your page from other websites. If you have very good and valuable copy, other sites may link to you because you are a valuable resource. However, if you want to speed this process along you will have to actively request links from other websites, either by trading links or by getting your content (with a link back to your site) placed on other websites.
When it comes to links you should keep in mind one important principle: it is not the quantity of links that is important, but the quality. One good link from an authority site such as CNN or Wikipedia is worth more than dozens of links from other sites. To get these quality links, there is no short cut. You will have to earn it by having a site that provides a lot of useful information.

5. Keep up with Search Engine Developments:

The challenge of improving your web page ranking and search engine positioning is dynamic. Search engines are not static. Most of the big search engines of yesterday have disappeared or are only minor players today. You should keep up with changes in the world of search engines by taking part in online forums or subscribing to newsletters which deal with topics such as search engine optimization, web ranking, and general webmaster related issues.

For years I have been getting great information from the Led Digest, a subscription list which is sent out several times a week. You can see samples online at www.led-digest.com

If you do not have the expertise or the time to tackle these matters by yourself then you should take advantage of skilled professionals who can help you to improve your site’s performance in search engines. Whether you rely on professionals or are able to do it yourself, these five tips can provide a good point of reference for starting the work.

Creating An Affortable SEO Plan

Creating An Affortable SEO Plan
SEO forms a very important part of the success of a website. After all you want as much visitors as possible to your site in order to increase your sales. Like the law of supply and demand, once professionally done SEO is growing in importance, the price asked by most companies for a good SEO job will increase too. So what to do if you are running a small home based business and you are faced with SEO offers of up to $4000 for small job? Perhaps even the job isn’t that costly at all but the SEO specialist’s time is.Off course he wants his time to yield as much for him as possible. Let me tell you, affordable SEO is still available. What many experts won’t tell you is that, more often than not, they have very sophisticated software at their disposal. Software like that does lot of the web site analysis to be done before the SEO can be implemented which saves a lot of time. The next point of concern is that imagine you would be able to find a relatively cheap SEO? Would you trust it? Doesn’t cheap mean that it is no good? Or perhaps the “cheap” agency is run by scam artists? No doubt this is still true is many cases. Either there are companies that charge (criminal) amounts of money for a good SEO job at one hand and there are the “cheap” scam artists at the other. However it is my belief if you do a good search on the web you will still find some honest guys that are willing to work for you at an honest price and really give you a good return on your money.

How much work there is involved? First the SEO analyst will have to “scan” your website as to what is there and what is still missing SEO wise. Has the web site been submitted at all for the search engines? Have the right keywords been filled out at the various tags? Is the text or tile of the site search engine friendly? SEO experts use sophisticated software that “scan” all those details. After that they will advise you about how to get a better content, will supply you with a list of good keywords, will advise you how to restructure your site if necessary; all imperative actions to optimize the site for search engines and Page rank.

How much time will a typical SEO cost? Well the depends the size of the project off course but mind that SEO is a marathon and not a sprint. SEO is a process rather than an action. If your site’s current page rank is zero,a good SEO job could get it to 3 in 2 months and to 5 in 4/6 months, also depending on the content of the site. Most of the work for the SEO expert comes in the beginning of the job. After all the work on the site, tags etc is done than the site might need some fine tuning or re submission to the search engines a few times. Therefor usually most agencies work with a maintenance agreement of up to 6 months.

Of course if I talk about cheap or affordable SEO I don’t mean cheap in a sense of $100 a project but, depending a bit on the work involved off course,I would say about 40%/50% off the general market rates. That’s what I call affordable and accessible to most home business owners.

You Can Win At SEO As A Small Business

You Can Win At SEO As A Small Business

Small to medium sized business owners tend to think that they might be at a disadvantage when it comes to SEO. They have less resources than their enterprise counterparts and think that it’s the money that matters the most. The more money you have, the more you can “throw at” SEO and quickly see organic search traffic increase, right? Wrong. First of all, no matter how big your SEO budget may be it doesn’t change the nature of SEO.

Effective SEO Planning

Effective SEO Planning

Should you do your own SEO? There are some fundamental basics of search engine optimization and it’s not too difficult to figure out some of them. There’s a wealth of information online that you can easily access for free so you can start the process of understanding SEO. Many online SEO gurus have learned through experience via trial and error.

When it comes to advanced competition in your niche or in advanced SEO tactics when your competitor seems immovable from the top spot on Google, Yahoo and MSN you might want to call in the pros.

Everyone wants a good page rank when they are online. Everyone wants to be found on the top page of the big search engines. Do you know anything about social book marking, social networking, link farms, page rank or Alexa rank? Do you know how to use the SEO tools that come with your web design or blog software? Even if you choose to pay someone else to help you with your search engine optimization, you should learn at least the basics of SEO.

How do you learn more about SEO?

There are web based SEO courses that will teach you how to do your own SEO and there are videos you can watch in order to find out how to accomplish some of the techniques used. You can also read countless articles giving you tips and tricks about getting the right kind of deep links and about avoiding grey hat or black hat SEO tactics. You can also hire an SEO copywriter to help you optimize your home page and create content. There are some free SEO tools out there and some tools that you can purchase to help you with your online marketing.

You can hire an SEO company who helps small businesses at reasonable fees or you can hire big companies who might charge you thousands. One thing is for certain though, SEO is ever evolving and the average person does not know the exact formula behind how Google, Yahoo and MSN rank websites because these big three search engines continually change the rules so that the system maintains integrity. If someone uses underhanded tactics or spam they will be found out and might even be banned from the search engines. Companies who make it their business will keep up to date on the techniques and the rules and will help you, their client, stay near the top of the results. Do or Do Not Do It Yourself?

If you are a DIY personality you might love taking seo courses and managing your own SEO and playing with all the tools out there that can help you. Or, you might find the process cumbersome and frustrating though and if so, it’s best to hire someone to help. What some online entrepreneurs do is start out on their own and learn as much as they can and then solicit some help later on. The bonus here is that you gain experience and exposure and this can help you choose the right professional to help when you no longer have the time or desire to continue the process. If you find that you enjoy doing your own optimizing and are quite good at it, all the better for you!

If you have your own websites, there will be all sorts of people asking you to place a link to their site on your site. You have been approached by link buyers, link sellers, and brokers. Every one out there believes that getting links is the be-all and end-all of search engine optimization.

On the one hand I have to agree that getting links is important, on the other, I am not comfortable with some of the methods used. And to add to the already grey area of buying links for the purpose of altering your search engine ranking is a directive from a major search engine, the most major one actually, that they will be lowering the valued of sold links!

So, let us look at some of the basics of getting links that will, quite likely, be the smart way to get links.

First of all, I think that it is not natural to have many sites giving you sitewides. Why would a normal site want to give you a link from all of its pages? Ok, for a coupe of sites there might be some reason, but for the most part it is unnatural. The moral of the story is that, if you buy links, buy them on a specific page, probably the homepage, and not on all pages of a site.

Second, make sure that the sites linking to you are of all types. If your link building campaign revolves only around directory submission, or article marketing, or high PR pages, or the like, search engines might figure it out and lower your value.

Third, make sure that your links are added slowly and not all at once, unless your destination page is newsy. I am not saying that getting a thousand links in a week is too many. But a thousand links in one week and close to no links for the next few weeks might look strange.

Fourth, and this one is well known, make sure that you are not being linked to from a page that is virtually a link farm.

Fifth, ensure that your links look like natural links. How would that be? Well, on the one hand, try to have varying text in the link (this text is called the anchor text). On the other, you can try and get links to the main page as well as to other pages. This will make the links appear “natural.”

Sixth, focus on the topic or theme of the page that is linking to you. Focused links are quite likely more valuable. At the same time do not go overboard with this one. Unrelated links have value too. But the one thing that you should avoid is getting links from pages that link to a lot of “bad” pages. True you cannot control who links to you. But at least avoid knowingly getting links from “bad neighborhoods.”

Finally, stay away from reciprocal linkage. Reciprocal linkage is common in the world of blogs and may not be the poison pills that they are often known to be. All the same make sure that you do not have too many reciprocals. Surely you would not like to have the reputation of a spammer.

Instructions on Link Baiting for Website Links

Instructions on Link Baiting for Website Links
Link Building in a competitive niche is one of the most difficult marketing tasks I’m asked to do. Not only do I have to work in link-saturated industries, but more times than not I have to find a way to out-rank a “complaint site” and/or Wikipedia. If you’ve ever tried to do this you know how difficult it can be and how it’s necessary to think outside the box in order to net the links you need.

Successful link building in competitive markets takes both traditional as well as Web 2.0 linking tactics to make an impact. How do you avoid being buried in the search results or move above the complaint/Wikipedia site? One way is to work on developing reputation link bait.

What is reputation link bait?

Reputation link bait is the combination of two marketing strategies: pitching the media with an interesting story, and developing link bait. Traditionally, media pitches involve floating story ideas to journalists in conjunction with an upcoming event, while link bait is written to attract links from a wider audience by using controversial content. Reputation link bait uses each tactic, but with a twist—instead of promoting events and controversy, it focuses on promoting a company’s overall image through positive buzz. In a nutshell, reputation link bait is a tactic used to promote a company using newsworthy and trendy angles to build a positive corporate reputation.

As a linking tactic, reputation link bait makes sense. Done well, it offers the potential to generate a lot of quality links in a Google friendly manner while establishing your company as an industry leader.

Developing a reputation link bait angle

Spinning a positive corporate image isn’t something new, but unlike traditional marketing, reputation link bait doesn’t wait for opportunities to come around. Instead, reputation link bait is a process of creating high profile “angles” to pitch. Let’s look at two angles you can use to attract links using reputation link bait:

Capitalizing on current trends. There’s a lot of support and publicity behind the “buy local, go green” movement. Take advantage of this hot trend by turning some of your products green and developing a full publicity and link bait campaign to promote the changes.

Modify a number of your best selling products to use recycled materials and then blog about the positive results of your new green products. Write a two-part series on the process highlighting the outcomes and use environmentally focused social news sites like Hugg and TreeHugger as well as the general news sites like Digg, Reddit, and Propeller.

Build testimonial links. A single positive testimonial is good, but 50 is reputation making. Using the testimonials you have in place plus the new ones coming in as a result of going green, look for a line of commonality in each. Once you have it, develop an article series around the product or service everyone is raving about.

Promote the piece on social news sites such as Digg, Reddit, Propeller, TTiqq, and Fetch, as well as StumbleUpon.

Encourage comments and return the favor by commenting out. Doing so helps attract more comments from people with similar experiences and the attention of the media who monitor the social news sites. And don’t forget to contact the people who gave the testimonials. There’s a high probability they have web sites and blogs and will link to where they’re mentioned in your article series.

Take the testimonial angle a step further by getting celebrity and non-competing experts to endorse your brand. Offer a year’s supply of your product in exchange for a testimonial link from their websites, blogs, and newsletters. Once the links are in place, launch a full scale media blitz announcing the endorsement.

If you keep promoting the positive aspects of your business through reputation link bait, two things will happen: First, you’ll see which tactics consistently work and can invest resources into these venues, as doing so means more inbound links; and second, you’ll create positive link marketing momentum with the media and within the new industries you’re tapping into. You’ll find building links for competitive terms becomes easier when you have new sources to draw links from and more positive content in the search results than your competitors.

4 Unmatched Sources to Track Google Algorithm Updates4 Unmatched Sources to Track Google Algorithm Updates. It’s Never Been Easier To Track Google Algorithm Updates

It is almost impossible to keep up with every single change in the Google search algorithm, at least on your own. So, here are four sources to help you keep up with and track Google algorithm updates, as well as what they mean for your business.
1. Inside Search – Official Google Search Blog

While some may dispute it, there is no better source of knowledge than the source itself. The Inside Search blog is undoubtedly your most important source to monitor for news on the most recent algorithm updates and just what Google is attempting to target as such.

It is important to keep in mind that what Google attempts to do in the search engine results and what their algorithm update actually does are often two very different things. But more so than this, looking at what Google is targeting is great insight into what they deem as most important and/or major issues on the web currently.  4 Unmatched Sources to Track Google Algorithm Updates

2. MozCast – Google Algorithm Weather Forecast

When you are looking for the daily impact algorithms have on the web in general, MozCast is a great source. Every 24 hours the website will audit 1000 keywords to determine which top 10 results are showing that day for the query. They will then take those top 10 current results and compare them to the day prior to see just how much shake up has occurred. The bigger the change in results the higher the temperature.

This is a great way to collect a fairly small sample of search engine results and identify, in general, what is happening in Google currently due to algorithm changes.

Visit MozCast for daily Google algorithm tracking and weather reports here.
3. Matt Cutts Google+

For those of you who aren’t aware, Matt Cutts is head of the webspam team at Google. He has become a type of spokesperson for the organic side of Google search results. He will often post each time a major roll out occurs in the algorithm and ask businesses to provide feedback on how or if they are impacted by the update. He will also typically announce how much of the web they estimate will be affected.  4 Unmatched Sources to Track Google Algorithm Updates

The unique element you will get when following Matt Cutts (as opposed to the Google Webmaster Central blog) is that, at times, he will announce upcoming algorithm updates and elements they will be targeting in advance. This can be a great help in determining what your online strategy should be as you look into future months.

Follow Matt Cutts on Google+ here.
4. SEOmoz Google Algorithm Change History

For a comprehensive perspective on all public and documented algorithm updates there is no better source I have found than the SEOmoz Algorithm Change History.

Truly a beautiful peace of link bait online. But more than just link bait, you will find here the date, name and details of each algorithm update that has occurred dating back to 2000. You will also find additional sources for each update to help with digging into the details.

Track Google Algorithms Update & History at SEOmoz here.
What Do Google Algorithm Updates Mean For Your Business?

The landscape of factors that determine your websites ability to rank organically in Google’s search results is regularly shifting. As our world continues to become more and more digital the realization that a business cannot survive without ranking for terms that define your business’ services and products is becoming prevalent. To understand what it takes to rank (and rank well) as well as what it will take 3 to 6 to 12 months from now is also just as important. 4 Unmatched Sources to Track Google Algorithm Updates

Change in the organic search industry is so inevitable that it literally happens every day. The best way to combat this change and stay on top of it is to track changes and be forward thinking about what Google and other search engines like Bing are emphasizing as most important:

4 Unmatched Sources to Track Google Algorithm Updates High quality, helpful and unique content
High volumes of content (the more your know the more you have to offer – in theory)
Quality design and architecture in a website (built for the user)
Authoritative references or votes of confidence from other businesses or web properties (links)

11 Ways To Get Links To Your Site By Tim Jacquet

11 Ways To Get Links To Your Site By Tim Jacquet.

11 Ways To Get Links To Your Site By Tim Jacquet.

Getting links to your site increases traffic and boosts your rankings in the search engines queries.

Here are the 10 methods I used for getting links to one of my directories:

1. Directory submission
If you don’t have time to do it your self, you should hire some one to do this for you, as this is the best and the safest way to increase your back links.

2.  Link Exchange With Other Webmasters

This is a slow process and not always reciprocal linking is a good idea, cause search engines place more importance on one-way links than two-way links. Still, it can bring you valorous links, if you have what to exchange with.

3. Build A Network Of Websites And Interlink Them

Building multiple websites is always a good idea, but be careful to host them on different ips, not on the same server, as the search engines will believe you are manipulating their results and will most penalize your sites.

4. Write articles like this one. You can see in the footer my bio-box, that has 3 links. as you see, I am not writing the article for nothing.

5. Build a reciprocal directory
If you build a niche directory related to your site, many people with similar sites to yours will  want to submit a link to it, and, in return, you could ask for a link to your site.

6. Build a theme / template for used scripts

Like WordPress, or phpld. Put in the footer of the theme, your link, as in “Designed by yourlink.com”. If you can’t do one, you could always buy it from people that can. The catch here is to advertise it well.

7. Post on forums that allow you tho have a signature

You won’t get a great deal of of page rank, as most forums do not have a high page rank for their threads, but you will build up a good number of links, and as forums are generally very crowed by search engines, bots will follow the links to your site and and crawl your site on a regular basis.

8. Leave Comments On Blogs And Guest books

Don’t abuse it and start spamming other people’s blogs or guest books. Make comments to the subject, and make it look like you actually have something to contribute.

9. Write Good Testimonials

By writing and submitting testimonials to websites that you have previously purchased products or services from, you can get high-quality links to your site.

10. Buy Links

This can have a dramatic effect on your page rank and subsequently your search engine rankings if you can get links from PR6+ sites, however the only problem with this is that most links for sale are often for a set period of time, usually a month, and so you have to keep buying them to maintain your higher page rank and rankings.

5 Successful Tips in SEO

5 Successful Tips in SEO

5 Successful Tips in SEO. There are literally thousands of different tips you can find by going to forums, blogs, etc. Things to do with SEO, PPC, Usability, Code Optimization, the list goes on. I consistently find myself telling people the same 4 things. Here they are, free of charge:

  1. SEO – Title Tags and Description tags – Yes, I know, these are “Rookie” items but they are still so important. Title tags help you get rankings. Description tags help get people to click on your listing. Although your site may be ranked well, it is still up to someone to click on it. Create a compelling call to action to give people a reason to click. Often times I see SEO-only optimized title and description tags that make no sense. I once changed the title tag on this blog. When I added “Free eBook Download” my click through on that ranking rose 280% overnight. 5 Successful Tips in SEO.
  2. PPC – This is an easy one. The most common mistake I see when logging into an existing PPC campaign for a client is that they often confuse traffic and ads with search and the content network. The strategies are much different for these two types of mediums. Just because they are under the Google umbrella, doesn’t mean they should have the same strategy. Separate these out, and you will often increase your quality score and lower your click cost, while getting the same or more traffic.5 Successful Tips in SEO.
  3. Usability– So many times I see pages without a call to action, and I see a lot of calls to action that are mediocre at best. “Add To Cart” and “Fill out this form” are not sufficient. Here are two great ones to use:
    1. eCommerce – Free Shipping is hands down the highest-boosting conversion call-to-action there is. Some studies I have seen (and have personally witnessed) show that it increases conversion by 40%. That number is ridiculous….but true. People do not want to worry about calculating shipping costs — make it easy for them. Give it to them. Raise your pricing if you need to.  You are better off having a slightly higher price with free shipping.
    2. Lead Gen – On your lead form, give them a compelling reason to fill out the form. A free book, free download, 5 minute consultation, anything. Eight out of ten forms I see simply say “Give me your information so I can call you.”  That does not work any more. 5 Successful Tips in SEO.
  4. Tracking – One of the primary advantages of having an internet business is that you can get almost any data point that helps your business. Many people have Google Analytics installed, which is a great start, but just looking at visitor count is not enough. Visitor count is important, but that is the tip of the iceberg. If you are an eCommerce site, you need to have eCommerce tracking installed (which half the time is not done correctly). If you are a lead generation site, have your goals setup correctly. And since in many cases half of your conversions will typically occur via the phone, you need to have a proper phone tracking system (like IfByPhone.com) installed. It is cheap and it will tell you where each call originated from (even down to the keyword level). Do not half-ass your tracking. You need to know what is working and what is not so you can refine and have an intelligent basis to increase your marketing budget over time. 5 Successful Tips in SEO.
  5.  Interacting – Interacting with your with Your Followers is key.

4 Essential Rules for Online Content

You want your customers to read your email, your tweets, your Facebook postings, and your blog. If they’re already doing so, great: Congratulations.

But beware: Too many businesses go out of their way to annoy customers and get them to unsubscribe or turn away–often without even being aware of the problem. Are you guilty of this?

1. Avoid Content Crimes

Here are a few of the worst content crimes:

Using Flash graphics as the first page of a site, so that anyone who’s not on a laptop or desktop can’t go past that page
Using tons of high-resolution graphics in an email, not realizing that countless people are reading their email on an Android device in a land of minimal connectivity
Making links hard to find or read–or, even worse, making readers (or, as you should probably think of them, customers) scroll all the way to the bottom of an email to find them. Ever have to scroll through 10 pages of text on a mobile device?
Absolutely nothing drives me crazier (and gets me to unsubscribe to a newsletter, or quit a site, faster) than not being able to read an email or website because I’m on my Android or iPad and not in front of a regular computer with a regular email client.

If you’re one of the guilty parties: Why do you go out of your way to cause grief to the very people who pay your bills?

2. Respect Your Customers’ Differences

Here are a few general things to remember about customers and content consumption.

Platforms vary: You don’t control how the customer gets his content; he does.
Customers expect privacy: Just because you have all of their contact info doesn’t mean you have the right to use it.
Customers’ habits vary: Before you first reach out to a customer, know exactly how they like to receive their information. And think in detail: Getting email on a desktop is a much different experience than on a BlackBerry. There’s a reason text-based emails haven’t gone away.
Go where your customers are: If your audience isn’t where you’re trying to reach them, you won’t reach them. Sounds simple, but way too many companies have yet to figure this out.
3. Keep Things Simple

This article is provided by Apple Capital Group, Inc. Apple Capital Group is an asset based commercial lender based in Jacksonville, Fl. For more information, please check out our website at www.applecapitalgroup or call 866-611-7457 Ext.1 to speak to a loan officer.

It’s great to keep an eye on technology trends, but remember that your customers are more important than the broader population. Two years ago, I had a client tell me, “But everyone will have full html email on all devices in the next year!” But the truth is, some customers still want text-only email. Make sure you have a backup version that will make them happy.

I test out probably close to 30 phones a year, and on each one, I make sure to read a full html email with photos. I’ve yet to find one that looks as great as it does on a laptop or desktop. This doesn’t mean they don’t look “OK,” but OK isn’t good enough when you’re trying to give your audience what they want.

4. Test Your Links
